2017 PREDICCIONES DEL OSCAR (89TH ACADEMY AWARDS PREDICTIONS) DICIEMBRE PARTE 2 (DECEMBER PART II)

Este diciembre se han revelado las nominaciones de premios importantes como los Globo de oro y el Premio del Sindicato de Actores (SAG) y ; así también como los ganadores de los Critic's Choice Awards, el New York Film Critics Circle y se dieron a conocer el top 10 de las mejores películas del año según el American Film Institute.

Hasta la fecha, el colorido musical La La Land de Damien Chazelle, el coming-of-age Moonlight de Barry Jenkins y el drama familiar de cine independiente Manchester by the Sea de Kenneth Lonergan son los tres filmes que más aprietan entre ellos para quedarse con la gran estatuilla del Oscar a Mejor película.  Otros largometrajes estrenados este mes comercialmente han recibido aclamaciones por parte de los críticos internacionales: Silence del legendario Martin Scoresese apunta a la carrera de los Oscars a pesar de pasar desapercibida por la mayoría de los demás premios (como los Globo de oro); la causa tal vez se deba a su poca promoción antes de su estreno (tal como lo quiso Scorsese). Fences del actor galardonado Denzel Washington -adaptación de la obra de teatro homónima ganadora del Pullitzer-, también se suma a las grandes contendientes. Y por otro lado, encontramos largometrajes cuyo interés por los críticos ha estado incrementando a lo largo del año: Biopics como Jackie del chileno Pablo Larraín, Lion de Garth Davis y Hacksaw Ridge de Mel Gibson; pero también ficciones puras como la científica Arrival de Denis Villeneuve y el neo-western Hell or High Water de David Mackenzie.

Además, este mes se dieron a conocer las películas que quedaron seleccionadas para las nominaciones a Mejor película de habla no inglesa, Mejores efectos visuales, Mejor largometraje documental y Mejor maquillaje y peinados. Grandes sorpresas nos hemos encontrado, como la pre-nominación de la película sueca A Man Called Ove de Hannes Holm en la categoría de Maquillaje debido a que el mismo equipo de estilistas fueron nominados el año pasado por otra película sueca: The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, la cual también fue una sorpresa verla nominada ya que había sido pasada desapercibida por los expertos en predicciones. Y la cinta de stop-motion Kubo and the Two Strings que compite para quedar en la categoría Mejores efectos visuales; ésta podría ser una mera y merecida sorpresa ya que Kubo es uno de los espectáculos visuales más sorprendentes del año. 

Con respecto a la categoría Mejor actriz tengo asegurado que Portman, Stone y Adams quedarán nominadas, pero existe una disputa entre Meryl Streep (por Florence Foster Jenkins), Isabelle Huppert (por Elle), Ruth Negga (por Loving) y Annette Benning (por 20th Century Women) por lograr conseguir estarlo.

En la categorías musicales está claro que La La Land es la justa a llevarse el premio por su increíble composición, además de que en la categoría Mejor banda de sonido original la favorita solía ser la música compuesta por el islandés Jóhann Jóhannsson para Arrival pero ésta es ilegible, y en la categoría a Mejor canción original le hacen competencia una de las grabaciones comerciales más exitosas del año: Can't Stop the Feeling de la película Trolls, y el soundtrack ochentoso de Sing Street de John Carney, pero éstas no son competencia alguna ante el trabajo de Justin Hurwitz.

Y dentro del campo técnico, la aclamada The Handmaiden de Chan-Wook Park - la cual no ha logrado concursar en la categoría de Mejor película de habla no inglesa - podría sorprender así como lo hizo la película hongkonesa The Grandmaster en el 2013. Además, la cinta del director coreano ha sido aclamada por su fotografía y su dirección artística.

He aquí mis segundas predicciones de diciembre antes de la ceremonia de los Globo de Oro y el anunciamiento de las nominaciones a los premios BAFTA y Oscars:
