La Academia de Cine de Ciencia Ficción, Fantasia y Horror decide premiar anualmente a ciertas películas y programas de televisión por su excelencia en los ya mencionados géneros (sumándoles otros más como los géneros de acción, comic-book y thriller). La ceremonia que inició en 1972 (donde tuvo como ganador a Blacula), continúa en su cuadrigésima segunda entrega, en la que filmes como Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mad Max Fury Road, The Martian, Jurassic World, Ant-Man, Crimson Peak y Ex Machina han obtenido las nominaciones a las categorías más estimadas.
